24/7 production with Fastems’ FMS
Sandvik makes body parts for their rock drills with a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) from Fastems. See the highlights below and in the video:
- The system enables 24/7 operations when needed. In practice this means unmanned nights shifts.
- Stand-alone machining operations like turning or grinding machines not part of the FMS are integrated to be part of Fastems’ MMS control. Also assembly and testing phases are integrated.
- Fastems has integrated both new and existing machine tools to be part of the system.
- MMS gives great production transparency and integrates to Sandvik’s ERP for production orders. The FMS handles also raw materials and tool data, tracking the tools life and prompting for checks or changes.
- Sandvik is happy with the system in general and also with support they have gotten from Fastems: “Overall Fastems has good competence in automation”
